The governing structure of Friendship Force International is the International Board of Directors, which has all powers of governing and directing, and of overseeing the management of the business and affairs of the organization.

Since the organization’s founding in March 1977, and since the establishment of chartered clubs in 1983, very few modifications have been adopted to the structure of Friendship Force International.

Structure and Membership of the International Board of Directors

The Board of Directors is charged with setting policy for the organization, establishing strategic direction and overseeing business operations.

  • Board membership may range from 6 to 16 individuals according to the bylaws
  • Requirements for membership follow best practices for corporate boards
  • The selection of members is accomplished through the Nominations Committee of the Board of Directors with recommendations to the full Board and final approval in the fourth quarter of the preceding year membership

Committees of the International Board of Directors

Finance Committee. Responsible for reviewing the annual budget submitted by the CEO and recommending any changes to the Board. The Committee also has general oversight of the expenses incurred to ensure that the integrity of the budget is maintained.

Fund Development Committee. Established by the Board in March, 2016, the purpose of the committee is to assist in organizing fundraising activities for the organization that will help sustain it and contribute to its growth.

Executive Committee. This committee has immediate oversight of the manager of the affairs of the Corporation and includes the Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, Secretary and Member At Large.

Nominations Committee. Outlined in Article VI, Section 6.7 of the policies, this committee is responsible for the selection of potential new Board members.

Policy Review Committee. Responsible for the review of FFI governing policies to ensure the adoption, communication and monitoring of policies established by the Board.

Financials and Reporting

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Friendship Force International relies on fees for service and the generous support individuals globally to fulfill its mission.
